Grandpa's Obituary

Gilbert Verdon Heaton

Our beloved Dad, Brother, Grandpa and Uncle passed away Sunday, April 13, 2008, at the age of 80. He was born to Gilbert Giles Heaton and Mildred Lytle Heaton in St. George, Utah, and spent his childhood in Moccasin, AZ. After high school he joined the Army, where he served honorably in both the U.S. occupation of Japan and the Korean War. He married Clara Joyce Terry in the St. George Temple on December 15, 1949. Even though they divorced, to this day they remain friends and were one in the raising of their three daughters.

Dad had a passion for working with his hands which led him to his career as a master electrician, where he worked until his retirement at the Fremont Hotel in Las Vegas. He was one of the fortunate ones who was able to live out his life doing what made him the happiest, and that was returning to his roots as a cowboy at the Bar 10 Ranch.

Verdon is survived by his three daughters, VerDon Waite, Lynne Ann (Tom) Pfundstein and Peggy Darlene Lyman, all of Las Vegas, NV; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters Georgia Lou (Bill) Schmutz, Kanab, UT and Anna Laura (Art) Mitchell, St. George, UT; Sister-in-law Ruby Heaton, St. George; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Mildren (Lytle) Heaton; his sister, Darlene, and beloved brother Anthony Giles.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 17, 2008, 11:00 a.m. at Spilsbury Mortuary Chapel, 110 S. Bluff St., St. George, UT. Viewing will be from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at the Mortuary, prior to services. Interment will be in the St. George City Cemetery.

Arrangements are made under the direction of Spilsbury Mortuary, St. George, UT 673-2454. Friends and family are invited to offer their condolences at www.spilsburymortuary.com.
