As each birthday comes and goes I spend some time thinking about how fast time goes. My baby boy is now 5. He will go to kindergarten in the fall. WOW I just cant believe it.

Christmas Memories
Christmas was so wonderful! I hope that everyone had a Christmas like ours. It was full of fun, family and friends! I loved each and every minute of the madness:)

Joseph Smith Family Home Evening
December 23rd is the birthday of the first prophet of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Steve's mom and dad have made it a family tradition to get together on this day and have a party to celebrate and honor this great man.
They dressed up in clothes from the period of time that Joseph Smith was on the earth. Laurel said that they had these costumes made while they were teaching in Nauvoo.
Each family was asked to tell a favorite Joseph Smith story. Tyler represented our family and told the story of when Joseph played the stick game against a much bigger man. As they started the game it was neck in neck but Joseph said to his competitor, "Have you started yet?" Just then the pulled the stick with all of his might and won the contest.
Then we played some fun games that Joseph taught his young followers. The feather game and arm wrestling.
We loved learning from all the neighbors and family members who told touching stories of the prophet. We especially loved learning from Gracia Jones. She is a direct descendant of the Prophet. She told us that there are now about 100 members of the Smith line that have been baptized members of the church. Pretty amazing since many followers fell away from the gospel that Joseph Smith taught soon after his death.

Holy Snow!
Last night we went to Diamond Valley to have family night. The boys sent most of the evening playing in the snow. Over the past few days they have had at least 12-14 inches of snow. I know that these boys thought they had died and gone to heave. Until...they were so cold that they could not feel their fingers and toes.
Who said that it doesn't snow in the desert?

The Weather Outside is Frightful...
But the fire is so delightful...Let it snow! Let it snow! Let it snow!
The Washington County School District canceled school today on account of the 2-3 inches of snow that we received last night! I can not even begin to explain to you how wonderful it felt to get the call from Marvene saying that school was canceled! This has been the longest, coldest, wettest week and the kids are so excited for Christmas that they can barley contain themselves let alone sit in a classroom all day! So we slept in until 9a.m. and watched the snow lightly fall all day. It slowly turned to rain and most of the snow has melted in the valley but more is not the way!
The kids had so much fun playing in the snow. They had a huge snowball fight and there were only a few tears!
Then they decided that it would be fun to make a snow man. So here is a picture of our redneck snowman. You night not be able to tell but the arms are made of tent poles and the hat is a tin can. The snow was so wet and heavy that they could barely lift the parts for the head and body. Plus there is tons of grass, dirt and rocks in it. O'Well they had fun. Even Jersey got in on the action. She was even excited cause she got to sleep inside.
All in all it was a fun snow day. I got tons of presents wrapped, the house cleaned and grocery shopping done! Remind me of how excited I was in May when we have to make up this snow day.

"You'll shoot your eye out!"
One winter night, in Hurricane, the snow fell lightly on the ground. The Christian family were all snuggly and warm next to their wood burning stove. They decided to spend the blustry evening watching "The Dark Knight."
The Mom decided to go outside and take pictures of the snow. You see that snow in Hurricane is a rare treat. Especially at Christmas time! The youngest three boys followed her out and were amazed with the snow. They stuck out their tounges and tried to catch some snow flakes. The boys were anxiously waiting for the snow to stick to the ground so that they could make a snow man.
Well, the mother of the family decided that it was much to cold to be outside and decided to go inside to warm up. The boys still wanted to play outside so they came in and got their warm clothes on and headed out back to jump in the tramp in the snow! They continued to run back and forth from the front yard to the back yard. Somewhere along the way in all of their excitment they came across their BB Gun. All of the sudden...Crack! Crack! Crackle! One of the boys came in crying and another one of the boys ran and hid in his room. The other crying child proceded to tell the calm and patient father that one of his brothers had just shot the screen door window with the BB Gun.
"What were you thinking?" Why were you shooting the BB Gun?"
"I didnt mean too!" (sob, sniffle, s0b")
"I guess that Santa wont be bringing you any presents this year!"
"I am sorry Dad! I didnt meen to shoot the window. I was trying to shoot SNOWFLAKES!"
Well, after an hour or so of sweeping up shattered glass mixed with snowflakes and a few BB's the mother and father of the Christian family sent the boys to bed. They were trying so hard to remain calm and patient. All the while they were both laughing in their heads...REALLY? Who tries to shoot a snowflake? The least you could have done was point the gun away from the house."

Santa
Nate wasnt to sure about sittin on Santas lap but once he saw his brothers doing it he decided that Santa was "nice" He asked Santa for "the Roger-Roger Star Wars Guys" I sure hope Santa knows what he is talking about.
Luke asked Santa for a Nintendo DS and he wants money from Mom and Dad. Not quarters but dollars!
Austin asked Santa for a Remote control monster truck.

Boy Scout!
Tyler earn his tenderfoot, first class and second class scout badges. He has been working hard since August to learn all the boy scout stuff. He is excited to start to earn merit badges for all of the thing he loves to do! He has to earn his Eagle rank before turns 16 because he can not get his drivers liscence if he does not. He says that he will earn it all before his is 14!
Christmas Around The World
I ment to post this on my first grade blog but I accidently put it on here. So....This post is better than no post at all.
As Christmas time is approaching the children have been learning about Holiday traditions from around the world. We had Oma and Ompa Christian come and teach us about Christmas in Germany. The kids learned a fun game and tasted real German Cookies. Some of the children took one bite of them and threw them out!
On Wednesday we learned about the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah We played games with driedles and make potato Latkeys
Mrs. Seese and Ms. Gubler are fabulous Jewish Cooks!

How can four days off of school seem like four minutes? I was so looking forward to this long Thanksgiving vacation but it went by way too fast. We started the festivities by traveling to Las Vegas. Unfortunately a two hour drive took about three and a half hours. First our windshield wiper broke right in the mist of a huge rainstorm. Then, we got stuck in rush hour traffic. We got up early Thanksgiving morning we woke up and Tyler helped Grandma make salads for the big feast.
We went to Aunt Lynne and Uncle Toms house. Ever since I was little we have eaten Thanksgiving at their house. Now, it is fun to have my boys follow that tradition. But, they were so hungry by the time one o'clock rolled around! Here they are waiting patiently for the chicken to be served. My boys wont eat meat if they think it is something other than chicken.
Another tradition that we religiously follow is the sleeping bag down the stairs ride. This year Addie was the conductor of the rides. She was such a good sport! Im sure that her tail bone is still very sore. This is a picture of Addie, Ella (Cousin Amanda's daughter), and Luke.
Last but not least, here is my Thankful list:

1) I am Thankful for my family! My children, Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Mom, Dad, Brother, and all of my In-Laws. I love each one of them.
2) I am so blessed to work in the profession that I love. I am especially thankful for the fact that education is one of the stable careers in this struggling economy.
3) I am grateful for my Steve. He is the quiet strength in our family.
4) I am also blessed with great friends. Each one holds a special place in my life. Each one also plays a different yet priceless role in my life.
5) I thankful for the Savior and the gospel in my life.

Birthday
Today is my 35th birthday. It doest seem to old to me but when I think of my mom---She gave birth to her first child 35 years ago! WOW. 35 years ago, Thanksgiving day, I was born. (Sorry, Mom)
We started the birthday festivities yesterday. Clark and Laurel took us to dinner at Texas Roadhouse then they took the boys to their house for a sleepover. Steve and I went to the new Bond movie. Which I really enjoyed but I now want to rent the last movie and catch up on the story line. This morning Steve made us breakfast and graciously volunteered to go shopping with me. We went to the mall and to a few other places. He hates to shop so this was a miracle for him to go with me. I was craving my favorite pie from Croshaw's, Lemon Sour Cream, so Steve bought me a birthday pie. (It sounds gross--but really is is so yummy--think bananna cream pie but with a mild lemon taste)
There wasnt much I wanted for my birthday but I talked Steve into getting me this:
It is the new Blackberry Storm! But we went to the verizon store today and it is sold out until Tuesday. Steve is ready for his annual upgrade so he is actually getting it and then we are trading. Hopefully he wont change his mind and decide that I need to keep mine.

Welcome Home!
I am so proud of my littlest cousin, Addie! She just returned from an 18th mth mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She served in the New York area church history sites. I cant say enough how proud of her I am. Not just right now, but I have always admired her for her strength. I love being her eldest cousin! I love that she is cute and spunky! I love that she has made tough decisions in her life but has never given up on love! Addie, I am SO proud of you and your choice to serve a misson. I am sure that it will be one of the best experiences of your life. But, I am SO excited that you are home!

Here you go...
Some of you have been complaining because of my lack of posting....it is because I have been digi scrappin like a mad woman. On Saturday I went to the scrapbook expo with Jessica. We bought this cool program along with a new company that offers online tutorials. Anyway, it got me in the mood to get caught up. I did 22 pages on Saturday and Sunday. When I got home on Monday I uploaded all the pages to Memory Mixers web site and printed my first photo book. Perhaps, this was the cause I the huge migraine headache I got on Thursday? Remember that if you want to take a closer look at the pgs all you have to do is double click on them.
Also, just in case you were wondering who I voted for and why Steve has not said much to me since last Tuesday........
Why is it that Arnold Schwarzenegger (a republican) can live in a house, be the Governor and still be in love with Maria Shriver(a democrat) but Steve (a republican) and I (an independent) cant even agree to disagree? He actually said that he would rather have H. Clinton be president. I think it is going to be a long 4 years.
