Olympic Spirit

Are you competitive?Which event would you choose to participate in?
We watch way to much of the Olympics this year. I loved it all. I am not an athlete but I am competitive. But if I were to live out a dream I would be a swimmer. Not just any swimmer--An Olympic swimmer. I was a swim coach in high school and college. I enjoyed every minute of it. I think if I couldn't be an Olympian I would love to watch one of my swimmers compete!
Summer Blockbusters
I am so sad to admit that we did not see a single movie in the theaters this summer. It is way to expensive to take the kids. Oh wait, Steve and I did take Nate to see Wall-E. It was a cute movie but not cute enough to take the other boys.
Back to school!
It's that time of year again! What are your families back to school traditions?
I am not sure if we have my traditions that relate to back to school. I think it is just the traditional stuff like school supply shopping and clothes shopping. Although if you ask Austin he thinks he is so picked on cause he didnt get a new backpack this year. Does everyone buy their kids a new backpack every year? His was perfectly good still. I spend a few weeks getting ready for my new group of first graders. I love to go in and work when it is quiet. I enjoy thinking about how I could make the new year better than the last. I always have nightmares about my new class and what they might be like. Steve also give us each a blessing. I love that he can do this and I especially love to hear his council for our kids. I get to hear his concerns for his the boys. He often will not share those with me so I get to finally hear him.
School Memories
This week, for posterity's sake, share with us a school memory from your own childhood.
What is your earliest memory of school, what did you love about the first week of school, who was your favorite teacher, subject, or playground game?
I loved school as a little girl. I went to school in Boulder City Nevada. I was fortunate to live there my whole school career. I didnt have to change towns or get to know new friends. I remember being Mrs. Clause in my Kindergarten Christmas Program. I would go out to breakfast with my Dad before school sometimes then we would go read in the park until school started. In first grade my teacher Miss Murphy would put paper doggie bones in our desk if it was clean. In third grade I had the meanest oldest teacher in the whole school and I begged my mom and dad to take me out of it. In the end she was one of my favorite teachers. I learned my multiplication facts that year and my dad bought me a new 10 speed because I did. In fifth grade my teacher would take us to a special event if we completed our home reading for the quarter. We went ice skating, roller skating and swimming at her house. I remember really learning how to take notes and study for tests in the fifth grade. I loved JR high. I was the eight grade class president and very active in school activities. I loved all my teachers and I really worked hard at keeping up with the "Smart kids" High school was also fun. But it was filled with boys and all the stress that comes with being a teenager. My favorite classes were my Government class and my criminal justice class. I loved to debate the current events and discuss politics--Even as a teenager.
